Jan Strelau Program
Professor Jan Strelau (Polish psychologist, ISSID President in years 1993-1995), who made significant contribution to the field of personality and individual differences psychology, spent most of his time in scientific activity behind the "iron curtain.” Throughout all those years, he successfully struggled to achieve a more diverse understanding of individual differences by pushing the artificial boundaries between Western and Eastern Europe.
ISSID Ambassadors
The Jan Strelau’s Program calls for geographical diversification. The ISSID Ambassadors are responsible for encouraging collaboration with scholars from developing countries and countries where this area of psychology is not sufficiently recognized, ensuring that membership and perspectives from the different regions of Europe and the rest of the world are well represented in ISSID and its affiliated journals. In addition, ISSID Ambassadors will encourage the development of local/country associations of personality and individual differences.
Professor Robert Krueger from the University of Minnesota and Dr. Bruno Bonfá-Araujo from the University of Western Ontario are ISSID Ambassadors for 2023-2025. Their program aims to enhance the engagement of the ISSID in South America through a multi-phase initiative.
ISSID Note on the Event: Psychopathology in Latin America
On November 22, 2024, ISSID proudly hosted a remarkable event under the Jan Strelau Ambassadors Programme, shining a spotlight on psychopathology across Latin America. This engaging session brought together diverse perspectives from Argentina, Brazil, and Peru, offering a unique opportunity to explore the state of mental health in these regions.
With insightful presentations by Dr. Silvana Montes (Argentina), Dr. Sérgio Eduardo Silva de Oliveira (Brazil), and Dr. Dennis Calle Huanuco (Peru), the event provided a platform for examining both the shared challenges and the innovative advancements shaping mental health care in Latin America. Moderated with expertise by Dr. Robert Krueger, the discussions were thought-provoking and enriched by a vibrant Q&A session, allowing attendees to delve deeper into critical issues.
This event was part of the prestigious initiative designed to foster global collaboration and dialogue in psychology. We extend our deepest gratitude to our ambassadors, Dr. Robert Krueger and Dr. Bruno Bonfá Araujo, whose exceptional leadership and dedication were instrumental in the success of this initiative. Their commitment to bridging borders and advancing psychological research truly embodies the mission of ISSID.
We also thank everyone who participated and contributed to this celebration of international cooperation and knowledge-sharing. It was an inspiring moment of connection, learning, and growth. As we look ahead to ISSID 2025, we are excited to continue these vital conversations and further the impact of global psychological science.
