Frances Willard House Museum, 1730 Chicago Avenue, Evanston
• Former home of Frances Willard, prominent educator, temperance leader and suffragist
• Headquarters of the Women's Christian Temperance Union until 1910
• Open for tours on the first and third Sundays (e.g., July 19), 1-4 pm; last tour at 3 pm

Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood Street
• French chateau-style house of Charles Gates Dawes, U.S. Vice-President (1925-28) and Nobel Peace Prize recipient (1925) for efforts to stabilize postwar Germany
• Exhibit: Daniel Burnham's Evanston
• Tours: Thurs-Sat, 1 pm to 4:00 pm; last tour at 3 pm

• Location: on the lakefront, 3 blocks south of Church Street
Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, 3001 Central Street, Evanston
• Interesting small collection, from the Paleo-Indian period through the present day
• Exhibit: Earthworks, Virtual Explorations of the Ancient Ohio Valley
• Hours: Tues-Sat, 10 am to 5 pm (Thurs, open until 8 pm); Sun, 12-4 pm. Closed Mondays.

• Location: a 15-minute bus ride from downtown Evanston. Catch the northbound 201 Central/Ridge bus at the Davis St/Purple Line station (on Benson Ave. between Church St. and Davis St.). Or flag down the bus at the northeast corner of Church St. and Chicago Ave. Ask the driver to let you off at the corner of Central Street and Central Park Avenue.

Baha'i House of Worship, 100 Linden Avenue, Wilmette
• One of only seven Baha'i temples in the world; a gleaming white, circular building surrounded by gardens, and overlooking Wilmette harbor (just north of Evanston).
• Location: a short walk east from the CTA ("L") train station at Linden Avenue.
• Hours: 6 am to 10 pm daily
• Half of Evanston's four miles of lakefront is public parkland. Heading south from the park at the foot of Church Street, the running path extends through the parks and past magnificent mansions. Heading north, the running path winds around NU's lakefill campus (with views of the Chicago skyline) up to the Grosse Pointe Lighthouse and Evanston Art Center. (A half mile further north is the Baha'i House of Worship, mentioned above.)
• A former NU student has created a Runner's Guide to Evanston with routes and maps for five different runs of 4.5 to 8 miles in length. All routes start at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion (SPAC) on the lakefront at the north end of the NU campus.
• Clark Street Beach, one block north of Church Street, is the closest to downtown Evanston.
• Beach hours: 6 am to 11 pm. Swimming hours, w/ lifeguard on duty: 10:30 am to 8 pm
• Fee: $8.00/day
• Dempster Street Beach, a few blocks south, has sailboats and kayaks for rent.
• Ethnic Arts Festival, with food from around the world, live music, dance performances, and art and craft work of juried artists.

• Starlight Concert, with legendary Chicago bassist Bob Stroger performing old-time blues of Muddy Waters and Jimmy Rogers.
